Did you know that 1.4 billion zinc air batteries go into landfills every year? Aside from the environmental concern, frequently changing your hearing aid batteries can be a pain. An exciting solution to this problem is on the horizon.
Currently it is not possible to use rechargeable batteries with non-rechargeable hearing aids because they surge too much power. A company called ZPower is developing a rechargeable solution for hearing aids that will create a way to retrofit current hearing aids with rechargeable batteries. ZPower’s technology (scheduled to be released in late 2015) will enable audiologists and dispensers to upgrade new and existing hearing aids to become rechargeable. I will keep you updated as this technology becomes available.
